Custom Orthotic Assessment and Fittings in the Toronto Annex
If you are dealing with foot pain, recurring shin or knee pain, or discomfort that returns every time you stand, walk, or run, the way your feet load the ground may be part of the picture. Our custom orthotic assessments help you find out whether orthotics are the right answer for you.
At Resilience Physiotherapy in the Toronto Annex, we start with the assessment, not the product. We look at how your feet, ankles, knees, and hips work together, and we only recommend custom orthotics when your findings support them. If they do, we design them around your body, your footwear, and your activities.
What Is a Custom Orthotic Assessment?
A custom orthotic assessment is a hands-on evaluation of your feet and lower limbs to determine whether a custom-made foot orthotic would help your symptoms or movement. It includes:
a detailed history
an assessment of your foot mechanics
an examination of joint mobility, strength, and alignment, and a gait analysis, where we watch how you stand and walk.
A custom orthotic is a device made from a mould or scan of your own feet. It is not an over-the-counter insole. It is prescribed to support, offload, or redirect forces through the foot as part of a broader rehabilitation plan.
Orthotics work best alongside the rest of your care. And if your assessment shows orthotics aren’t what you need, we’ll tell you that.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Orthotics
-
Not everyone needs custom orthotics. Many people find relief from good footwear, exercise, and a quality ready-made insole.
Custom orthotics tend to make sense when the assessment points to a specific mechanical contributor, when your foot shape falls outside standard sizing, or when other approaches haven’t helped.
We’ll give you an honest recommendation.
-
Many extended health plans cover custom orthotics, but coverage and requirements vary by plan. Some require a prescription from a particular type of practitioner, and some require specific casting methods.
Check your plan details before booking. We can provide a detailed receipt and documentation for submission.
-
We don’t need a referral to provide your assessment. However, some insurers want a prescription or referral before booking, so please ask yours.
-
No. A true assessment looks at the whole lower limb and your movement, and the device is made from an impression of your foot.
It’s truly made for your unique needs.
